Adaptive optics ophthalmoscopy.
This review starts with a brief history and description of adaptive optics (AO) technology, followed by a showcase of the latest capabilities of AO systems for imaging the human retina and an extensive review of the literature on where AO is being used clinically. The review concludes with a discussion on future directions and guidance on usage and interpretation of images from AO systems for t...
متن کاملAdaptive optics scanning ophthalmoscopy with annular pupils
Annular apodization of the illumination and/or imaging pupils of an adaptive optics scanning light ophthalmoscope (AOSLO) for improving transverse resolution was evaluated using three different normalized inner radii (0.26, 0.39 and 0.52). In vivo imaging of the human photoreceptor mosaic at 0.5 and 10° from fixation indicates that the use of an annular illumination pupil and a circular imaging...
متن کاملAdaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopy.
We present the first scanning laser ophthalmoscope that uses adaptive optics to measure and correct the high order aberrations of the human eye. Adaptive optics increases both lateral and axial resolution, permitting axial sectioning of retinal tissue in vivo. The instrument is used to visualize photoreceptors, nerve fibers and flow of white blood cells in retinal capillaries.
متن کامل3-D Ultrahigh Resolution Optical Coherence Tomography with Adaptive Optics for Ophthalmic Imaging
By use of broad bandwidth light source, the potential of OCT is demonstrated to perform noninvasive optical biopsy of the human retina (D. Huang, et al, 1991). OCT is based on low coherence interferometry (R. C. Youngquist, et al, 1987), in which the pattern of interference between the reference and object beams is used to determine the amount of light reflected back from a certain point within...
متن کاملHuman retinal microvascular imaging using adaptive optics scanning light ophthalmoscopy
BACKGROUND Retinal microvascular imaging is an especially promising application of high resolution imaging since there are increasing options for therapeutic intervention and need for better structural and functional biomarkers to characterize ocular and systemic vascular diseases. MAIN BODY Adaptive optics scanning light ophthalmoscopy (AOSLO) is an emerging technology for improving in vivo ...
